Periodontal Dental Services in
Meridian

Periodontitis, also known as gum disease, is a common oral health condition. The first sign of periodontitis is usually the gums becoming swollen and inflamed due to continuous exposure to bacteria and plaque. A patient suffering from periodontitis may notice some discomfort in their gums, and they may bleed when they brush and floss. Although this may seem mild, the condition will worsen over time if it is not treated.

Periodontal Treatment in Meridian

After the relatively mild initial stage, the gums will begin to pull away from the teeth. Empty spaces called periodontal pockets will form. These openings provide a perfect environment for bacteria and plaque. As the pockets become filled with unwanted material, the condition will spread. Ultimately, this can lead to bone deterioration and tooth loss.

When symptoms of gum disease arrive, it is important to seek treatment as early as possible. Remember, periodontitis is best treated early before serious damage occurs. We offer the following periodontal services:

  • Scaling and Root Planing: Scaling and root planing is very effective at treating early gum disease. The scaling process consists of cleaning deep below the gum line to remove unwanted tartar and bacteria. Then, root planing involves smoothing out rough spots on the root surfaces to prevent future buildups.
  • Ridge Preservation: This procedure is used when a tooth is lost or extracted, but dental implants cannot be installed right away. We can preserve the ridge bone by applying bone grafts to the site. This helps to keep the jawbone healthy, so dental implants can be installed at a later date.
  • Root Surface Debridement: This procedure involves deep cleaning the root surfaces below the teeth to remove accumulations of tartar, bacteria and plaque. This can halt the progression of gum disease and encourage faster recovery.
  • Pocket Reduction: Reducing and eliminating the pockets associated with gum disease is one of the most important aspects of treatment. This procedure involves applying an antimicrobial liquid to the pockets to eliminate oral bacteria. This works to reduce the pocket size and promote fast healing.
